I began working at the after school program yesterday, and I love it. I am not actually doing research because I am still trying to get IRB approval. But, I have experienced an intense two-week teaching training session and I have taught two English classes and one edible crafts class everyday. Today, we reviewed the elements of a story. For examples of those elements we looked at the Three Little Bops on Looney Tunes and listened to the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air theme song and picked out the characters, settings, plot, and sequence of events in each example. While some of my students are too cool for school, they all sang along to the themes song and understood the concept of sequencing events. This is going to be a great summer!
Elisa,
ReplyDeleteI hope your experience at Student U. continues to go well. All students I've known who have worked there have really loved the opportunities they have to do new things and work with amazing students and teachers. One of APPLES' student leaders, Alex, is working with you this summer. I know ti can be an exhausting and full experience too.
Please take a look at the June prompt I posted in early June for all Fellows to respond to - it is posted on the blog home page, embedded in my note to everyone. Please respond to it so I can have a better sense of challenges and surprises you are encountering. Has your faculty advisor had any advice for you regarding your IRB approval or do you have a sense of when you might know more?
As a reminder, the expectation is that you'll post a minimum of one blog each week, so start writing!
I'll check back in early next week to hopefully read more.
Jenny
